This fall I received a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Initially, there were some concerns around the base specifications.

The computer I was using most of the time was a 16" MacBook Pro. Due to the size, it was not with me all the time, but it was a beast! 32GB Ram, 500GB drive and could drive multiple monitors and operate without missing a beat.

When ordering the MacBook Air, I topped it out at 16GB and thought it would work well for what I was using it for most of the time (internet, zoom, emails, and the like — not a lot of heavy lifting).

I have been pleasantly surprised. The M1 has powered through so much without even breaking a sweat (and without a fan — that could be tough). The machine runs fast, silent, and solid. I have been extremely happy with this system (and its size allows for it to be much more mobile).

The biggest drawback I have experienced is the 2 USB-C ports. The system can only drive ONE external monitor and that has been my biggest complaint. Again, not doing that a lot, but having the option was a nice option to be able to work with.

If looking for a machine in 2021, considering a Mac, the M1 MacBook Air is a solid and highly recommended device.
